Celebrating 20 Years of Carnival Calabar: “Traces of Time” Unveiled

It was an honor to stand alongside Governor Bassey Otu, former Governors Donald Duke and Liyel Imoke, APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, and many distinguished guests at the unveiling of this year’s Carnival Calabar theme — “Traces of Time.”

As we mark 20 years of Africa’s biggest street party, I’m proud to witness how far the Carnival has come — from a bold vision in 2005 to a global cultural phenomenon that showcases the resilience, creativity, and heritage of Cross River State.

Governor Otu’s tribute to the visionaries, performers, designers, and every unsung hero who keeps the spirit of the carnival alive was truly moving. His administration’s reintroduction of the Junior Carnival, Night of Kings and Queens, Ikom and Ogoja Carnivals promises even greater inclusion and innovation.

This December, we don’t just celebrate a carnival — we celebrate the soul of our people and the beating heart of our tourism and creative economy.
